Operates annually November 1–March 31
The need for a homeless shelter is greater than our year-round capacity, so for the five coldest months of the year, Inter-Faith Ministries operates the Emergency Winter Shelter in the IFM Spriitual Center to provide a safe, warm, dry place to sleep for anyone who needs it. The Inter-Faith Spiritual Center can provide shelter for up to 120 men. Women are housed across the street in the Community Room at Villa Courts.
Dinner is provided by volunteers each evening and breakfast every morning. Men and women eat together at the Spiritual Center. Please contact the Inter-Faith office if you are a part of a group who might be interested in providing a meal.
In 2014, IFM started a partnership with Guadalupe Clinic to provide on-site tuberculosis skin testing, flu shots, blood sugar and blood pressure monitoring and wound care. In addition, Guadalupe Clinic nursing staff provided patient education on diabetes, hypertension and other common afflictions of the homeless population. This partnership has resulted in fewer illnesses and fewer visits to the emergency room.
Working with Episcopal Social Services through a grant from the Kansas Health Foundation, IFM case managers have conducted smoking reduction classes at the Spiritual Center. Through education and encouragement the goal is to reduce the number of cigarettes, leading to gradual cessation.
